GeoGuessr vs MyGeoQuiz: Street View Game or a Free Geography Quiz?

August 20266 min read

People search “GeoGuessr vs a geography quiz” because the two products get lumped together and they are not the same game. GeoGuessr is a location-guessing game built on Google Street View. MyGeoQuiz is a set of multiple-choice quizzes on flags, capitals, landmarks, dishes and country outlines. One trains you to read a landscape. The other trains you to recall a fact.

What GeoGuessr actually is

GeoGuessr drops you into a Street View panorama and asks you to pin the location on a map. Clues are language on signs, driving side, vegetation, utility poles and architecture. It is closer to a deduction puzzle than to a school quiz. Competitive modes, parties and custom maps are the product; a flag quiz is not.

Street View games reward reading a place, not naming a capital from a list

What GeoGuessr costs (from GeoGuessr’s own support page)

The free tier is limited. Paid play is a Pro subscription. GeoGuessr’s support article Price Changes 2026 (updated 30 June 2026) states that as of 22 January 2026, US dollar prices for the most popular plan, GeoGuessr Pro Unlimited, are:

  • Yearly plan: $3.99/mo ($47.88/yr), up from $2.99/mo ($35.88/yr)
  • Monthly plan: $6.99/mo, up from $4.99/mo

That wording is GeoGuessr’s, not a reseller’s. The same article points readers to geoguessr.com/pro for current prices in other currencies and notes that existing subscribers see the new rate on the next billing date. A separate Elite tier adds cosmetics and a coin stipend; GeoGuessr does not publish a single global Elite dollar figure on that price-change page.

What MyGeoQuiz is

MyGeoQuiz is a free browser quiz: flags, capitals, landmarks, food, silhouettes, world facts, country pages, a daily 15-question mix, and public-domain outline maps. There is no Street View, no account, and no subscription. Scores live on the device. That is a different job from pinning a dirt road in rural Brazil.

Who should play which

  • Play GeoGuessr if you want Street View, multiplayer duels and the sport of reading a landscape — and you are willing to pay Pro Unlimited at the prices GeoGuessr publishes.
  • Play MyGeoQuiz if you want flags, capitals, landmarks and a daily quiz with no account and no fee, including in a classroom where Street View is the wrong tool.
  • Use both if you already subscribe to GeoGuessr and still miss the classic “name the capital” drill. They do not replace each other.

If you came here from a GeoGuessr thread looking for a free quiz, start with the daily challenge or the flag quiz. If you came here from a classroom looking for outline maps, those are on the printables pages and are public domain.
